The BPRS Course- How will it help the development of Trauma Systems in India ?

The Trauma Care systems can be analyzed in relation to the three most important aspects of trauma care viz. Pre-Hospital, In-Hospital Acute Care and In-Hospital Definitive care. The definitive care has been provided in India according to the international standards of care, but the two areas which need urgent attention are the Pre-Hospital Care (Emergency Medical Services) and the immediate care that a patient receives when he reaches the hospital (Acute trauma Care). There is an urgent and pertinent need to develop protocols and training modules in both the areas of Chain of Survival. Most of these trauma victims have limb injuries and soft tissue injuries. If these injuries are not given due care in the early part of the management, these patients develop deformed and unusable limbs, unsightly scars etc. requiring more complicated procedures to correct them.

If we critically analyze the trauma care in India, we find that two areas need very urgent attention for improving the overall care for the injured.

1. Human Resources: Manpower Training and Education
2. Organization: The laying down of Protocols and Guidelines for care providers.

The BPRS Course of the ISTAC® addresses all the critical fields in which we need to improve and train the doctors not only in organizing the Acute Trauma Care. It addresses and lays down protocols to manage the critically injured poly trauma patients.
